On the fifth Sunday in August, we will meet online, and sit with the recorded instructions from Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, to practice "wakefulness in this moment" in two gentle guided meditation sessions.
After a short meditation session, we will watch a documentary film about a group of prison inmates who participate in a 10-day Vipassana retreat -- a dramatic narrative of human potential and transformation. The film has the power to challenge stereotypes about incarcerated individuals and reshape our understanding of freedom.
After meditation, we will watch a documentary film about the pioneering work of the late teacher Bernie Glassman. We will learn how Buddhist principles instructed all his endeavors -- from preparing meals to engaging in business ventures, social activism, community building, international peacemaking, and simply living a life that matters.
Deeply moving and laugh-out-loud funny, MISSION: JOY is a documentary of the affecting friendship between two icons: His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. And their science-backed wisdom on how to LIVE WITH JOY.
On July 31st, we will do a short sitting, and then watch "Saving Mes Aynak" together. Saving Mes Aynak follows Afghan archaeologist Qadir Temori as he races against time, a Chinese mining company, the Taliban, and local politics to save a 5,000-year-old archaeological site in Afghanistan from imminent demolition.
